[* Spillane was enough involved with US writer of h-b/noir novels Dave J. Garrity (1923-1984) that he loaned him the plot for "Dragon Hunt" (Signet 1967, by Dave J. Garrity), which is based on a story Spillane wrote in 1954 for the comic strip version of Mike Hammer (and Mike Hammer makes an appearance in the book helping private eye Peter Braid, a series character of Garrity). The title is a reference to "the dragon", the villain of Spillane's novel "The Girl Hunters" (1961), to which Garrity's "Dragon Hunt" is vaguely a back-door sequel.]

[-- * Spillane's posthumous novel, completed by his sometime collaborator Max Allan Collins (co-editors: "A Century of Noir", 2001, etc.)
-- In the midst of a Manhattan snowstorm, Hammer halts the violent robbery of a pair of college sweethearts who have stumbled onto a remarkable archaeological find in the Valley of Elah: the perfectly preserved femur of what may have been the biblical giant Goliath. Hammer postpones his marriage to his faithful girl Friday, Velda, to fight a foe deadlier than the mobsters and KGB agents of his past Islamic terrorists and Israeli extremists bent upon recovering the relic for their own agendas.
-- "The Goliath Bone" is one of three almost finished Mike Hammer novels that Spillane sanctioned Collins to finish before his death in 2006.]

(Кость Голиафа)
The Big Bang, by Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins (May 14, 2010; Boston/NY: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, "an Otto Penzler Book") Mike Hammer-15

[--The Lost Mike Hammer Sixties Novel.
--In the midst of the swinging sixties, Mike Hammer swings into action when he happens upon drug dealers assaulting a young hospital messenger. He saves the kid, but the muggers are not so lucky. Hammer considers the rescue a one-off, but somebody has different ideas, as indicated by a street-corner knife attack. With himself for a client, Hammer — and his beautiful, deadly partner Velda — take on the narcotics racket in New York just as the streets have dried up and rumors run rampant of a massive heroin shipment due any day. In a Manhattan of flashy go-go palaces, swanky bachelor pads, and the occasional dark alley, Hammer deals with doctors and drug addicts, hippie chicks and hit men, meeting changing times with his timeless brand of violent vengeance. Originally begun and outlined by Spillane in the mid-sixties, and "expertly completed" (Playboy) by his longtime collaborator Max Allan Collins, The Big Bang is vintage Mike Hammer on acid... literally.
--Coauthor's note:
This story takes place in the mid-1960s, when Mickey Spillane began it. With a deadline looming, he put "The Big Bang" aside, and substituted another Mike Hammer novel, "The Twisted Thing", which he'd completed, and shelved, decades before.
In 1982, on a visit to Mickey's South Carolina home. I was handed by my host two substantial Mike Hammer manuscripts. I was flabbergasted — there hadn't been a Hammer published since 1970! I read late into the night, which was always my practice with Spillane novels, and the next morning at breakfast offered up enthusiastic reviews.
"Maybe we can do something with 'em someday", he said casually. On a later visit, in 1989, he sent the partial manuscripts home with me "for safekeeping".
Mickey's words proved prophetic: a few weeks later. Hurricane Hugo destroyed his home, and "The Big Bang" would likely have been lost.
We had spoken about the novel in detail, including the ending, which Mickey said was one of his favorites. My hope is that readers will greet this tale as enthusiastically as I did back in 1982, when Mickey Spillane handed me a stack of manuscript pages for bedtime reading.

Kiss Her Goodbye, by Mickey Spillane & Max Allan Collins (NY: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2011) Mike Hammer-16

[--Mike Hammer stalks disco-era drug runners and a fortune in Nazi diamonds in a two-fisted new Spillane novel.
--Review:
"The violent death of his old cop mentor calls Mike Hammer back to New York and more of the same death-dealing intrigue he first made his specialty in I, the Jury 64 years ago.
--According to Capt. Pat Chambers, all the evidence indicates that Insp. Bill Doolan, retired and facing the end stages of cancer, shot himself in the heart. But Mike (The Big Bang, 2010, etc.) isn’t buying it, and it’s not long before new evidence bears him out. A waitress is killed in a senseless mugging only a few blocks from Doolan’s funeral. A friendly hooker who has dinner with Mike is struck by a hit-and-run driver who was obviously aiming for her companion. The waitress’s ex-boyfriend, who supposedly left town years ago, turns up dead. What can an aging private eye do? "I was older. I was jaded. I was retired," reflects Mike. "But I was still Mike Hammer." Naturally, he’s lionized by everyone in the Big Apple, from rookie Congressman Alex Jaynor to kinky ADA Angela Marshall to reformed crime-family scion Anthony ("don’t call me Little Tony") Tretriano, to hot Latina chanteuse Chrome, who sings in Anthony’s club, to Alberto Bonetti, the druglord whose son Sal Mike killed in self-defense. Sal will be followed into the great beyond by over two dozen souls, most of them sent hither by Mike.
--Working from an unfinished novel by the late Spillane, Collins provides the franchise’s trademark winking salacity, self-congratulatory vigilantism and sadistic violence, topped off with a climax that combines the final scenes of two of Mike’s most celebrated cases." --Kirkus Reviews.
--Coauthor's Note:
In the week prior to Mickey Spillane's death, he told his wife, Jane, "When I'm gone, there's going to be a treasure hunt around here. Take everything you find and give it to Max — he'll know what to do." No greater honor could ever be paid me.
Half a dozen substantial Mike Hammer manuscripts were found in the "treasure hunt," frequently including plot notes, rough outlines, and even drafts of final chapters. These lost Hammer novels spanned Mickey's career, from the late 40s through the mid-'60s and up to "The Goliath Bone", which he was working on at the time of his passing.
The unfinished manuscript for this novel, found on a desk in one of Mickey's three offices at his South Carolina home, included plot and character notes, as well as a shorter false start.
The theme of an older, ailing Mike Hammer returning to New York and finding it (and himself) changed was important to Mickey, and he revisited it in "Black Alley" (1996). But nowhere did he explore it with more passion than in the two partial manuscripts that I combined, shaped, and expanded into "Kiss Her Goodbye" — the "lost" '70s Mike Hammer, written as it was between "Survival... Zero!" (1970) and "The Killing Man" (1989).
